Valmor Prize 1945

This seven-storey building, completed in 1945, was awarded the Valmor Prize. The entrance tower rises one level higher and is topped by pinnacles. The main door is framed by a precious set of sculptural panels.

The project was designed by the architect Reis Camelo, responsible for various notable buildings and monuments, like the Caixa Geral de Depósitos in Coimbra, or the Monument to the Dead of the First War World (in co-authorship with the sculptor Roque Gameiro), in Maputo. He was awarded three Valmor Prizes, with the buildings at Rua da Imprensa, 25 (1942), Av. Sidónio Pais, 14 (1945) and Rua de Infantaria 16, 92-94 (1931), the latter together with the architect Jacobetty Rosa.
